The Blood Vessels which supply blood to the heart are prone to get blockages in them which results in a heart attack and in some cases causes instant death. These arteries are called Coronary Arteries. There are 3 major coronary arteries which develop blockages. The test to find out the blockages in the coronary arteries is called Coronary Angiography. In this test a guide wire is inserted through the femoral artery (thigh) or radial artery (wrist). This wire is pushed right upto the arteries of the heart and the camera on top of the wire sends images of the inside of these arteries which are seen on a monitor. If any of the Coronary Artery has more than 70% blockage then the patient needs to undergo Coronary Angioplasty to restore the blood flow to the heart and reduce the pressure on the heart.
Heart Disease is not only a Lifestyle disease but also a strong genetic disease. If any of your parents, siblings or grandparents had heart disease then you are at a higher risk of coronary artery disease. Patients who are obese and have a less active lifestyle are also at a higher risk of this disease. Patients who are tested postive on Treadmill Test or suffer frequent chest pains are ideal candidates for Coronary Angiography. The test is done on a Cath Lab and Siddh Hospital has one of the best cathlabs from Siemens, Germany. A non invasive test called CT Angiography is also available but is considered to be much less accurate by the cardiologists and is therefore not much popular for diagnosing coronary artery disease.
Dr Anurag Mehrotra has more than 22 years of experience and is considered as one of the finest Interventional Cardiologist in India. Dr Mehrotra is the Chairman of Cardiology Department at Siddh Hospital, Moradabad. Coronary Angiography test costs Rs. 10000 and is done in day care. Our team of interventional cardiologists do this test and the results are known immediately. The patient is kept in the hospital for few hours and then discharged. However if blockages are found in the coronary arteries then it is always better to get Angioplasty in the same sitting which will not only save cost for the patient but also the risk of damage to the heart muscle in the event of any heart attack. The cost of Angiography and Angiplasty together would be Rs. 125000 - 150000 with one stent.
